A MODEST REQUEST TO THE WORLD COMMUNITY OF WRITERS AND POETS

We have often believed that journals grow like trees: sown, some breathe their last within their soil; some sprout and live till they get crushed under some innocent feet. A few of them are finally destined to take a huge shape canopying the earth and covering the sky! Destiny plays drastically more in the life of a wild tree than in the life of civilized humanity.

PROSOPISIA—the flag-ship of the Academy of (W)riters and World Literati (ARAWLII) was incepted way back in2006 and during the last dozen years, it has seen the light of the day very regularly and religiously—with one exception though when last year owing to some unavoidable circumstances—both personal and impersonal—we were compelled to bring out a combo-edition. But for this instance, each year the two issues—Summer and Winter—did come out as regularly as the rising of the sun. And we have been running it with almost no financial support from any agency whatsoever and any individual contributor whosoever. Not even once could we think of asking for any monetary help from the world community of writers and poets who already have been so kindly contributing with their masterpieces to each of the issues of the journal. Nor have we ever thought or do we think to give this sensitive literary journal a commercial garb by inviting any sort of advertisements. And the simple reason has been that the Academy had preamble-d itself that its off-springs—be it the Prosopisia or any other publication like the Second Genesis—belonged to itself no less than it did to each contributor. The Ubantu-race in pursuit of creativity and poetry has been the defining doctrine of all the varied activities of the Academy. WE ran, have been running TOGETHER. Prosopisia has been the poetic Mowgli jointly reared by the woods of world literati.

But of late, the Academy has entered a critical phase of economic crisis and the paucity of funds makes the publication of the journal not a very smooth sail at all. It is difficult to maintain its regularity with almost empty resources. We, therefore, request you all, dear co-poets and co-writers, to come up and financially contribute to the Academy through becoming its life members and subscribing to the journal. We beseech your magnanimity this time for monetary assistance so that the journal should survive and the Academy may breathe on as ever before. The tree called PROSOPISIA may not be felled in its prime. Let us, therefore, have yet another Ubantu-race! And let not the epitome of creativity be banished from human world and/or poetry-dom.
